Abstract	This thesis will focus on the 2006 Israel-Hizballah war which began on July 12th, 2006. It will ascertain the American college students' attitude towards the 2006 July War in Lebanon in comparison to the U.S. officials' attitude. The American college students' perspective of July War will be collected through surveys and interviews. To determine the U.S. officials' perspective, various journals, newspapers, and White House statements will be examined. The crucial point of this thesis is to determine if the American college student's views coincide with those of US officials. Furthermore, this thesis will ascertain the differences in views between the average American college student who may not have a specific background on the Middle-East and the American college student who has a basic knowledge of the Middle-East. As this world becomes more interdependent, the U.S. plays a bigger role in Middle-East politics. Thus, it is important to capture students' perceptions of world issues and how they differ from the government's perspective. This thesis will examine the effects of the media, propaganda, lobby groups and the personality of the President of the United States. The conclusion will draw upon the reasons for the similarities and differences in the perspectives of U.S. college students and U.S. officials. U.S. college students and U.S. officials alike will agree that Hizballah is a terrorist group and their definitions will be quite similar. However, the criteria for the winner of the war will be defined differently by each group. The students conclude that Hizballah was the winner of the July 2006 war since Israel was unable to destroy Hizballah or return its captured soldiers. On the other hand, U.S. officials will view Israel as the winner of the July 2006 War since they were able to have United National Forces deployed along the Southern Lebanese border to prevent further Hizballah attacks on Israel. The differences in perspectives can be evaluated by examining President Bush's personality and his campaign to fight terrorism. The difference can also be due to confidential information that the President may have access to but the public may not be privy to. And lastly, it can be due to role of the strong Israel Lobby group in the U.S. and the role it can play in applying pressure on the different government branches. The thesis will examine all of these factors in an effort to compare and contrast the differences in perspectives on the Israel-Hizballah July 2006 War.
