Notes
This
mixed-methodology
study
investigated
the
impact
of
structural
and
operational
elements
on the
perceived
effectiveness
of
Student
Assistance
Programs
(SAPs)
.
Five
SAPs
participated
in the
study
;
three
at the
elementary
,
one
at the
middle
, and
one
at the
high
school
level
.
Two
case-study
sites
, the
middle
and the
high
school
, and
four
student
cases
were
utilized
to
examine
team
member
and
student
perceived
effectiveness
.
Findings
suggest
that
students
perceived
the
SAP
to be
effective
in
facilitating
timely
work
completion
;
increasing
school-home
communication
;
delineating
high
expectations
; and
identifying
support
systems
.
Data
also
suggest
six
circumstances
contribute
to
perceived
effectiveness
of
team
members
:
human
resources
of the
team
;
administrative
involvement
;
multi-disciplinary
membership
;
working
agreement
and
rules
;
effective
team
processes
; and
teacher
support
.
Finally
,
data
suggests
that
high
school
students
and
parents
are not
adequately
informed
of
SAP
processes
.
