government
of
Botswana

through
the
ministry
of
education
,
opened
Molepolole
College
of
Education
and
Tonota
College
of
Education
in the
years
1985
and
1990
respectively
. These
educational
institutions
were
established
as a
response
to the
chronic
shortage
of
teachers
,
more
especially
at the
junior
secondary
school
level
. They
offer
a
three
year
diploma
in
Secondary
Education
for the
junior
secondary
school
teachers
to
better
equip
them with the
various
complex
scientific
and
artistic
components
of the
pedagogical
expertise
before
entrusting
them with the
task
of
teaching
(Report
of the
National
Commission
on
Education
,
1993)
.
Teacher
trainees
who
are
admitted
to
study
in these
institutions
are
mainly
students
who
have
successfully
completed
Cambridge
School
Leaving
Certificate
Examination
(which
is
an
equivalence
of
High
School
in the
U
.
S
education
system)
with
either
an A,
B
or
C
grade
.
However
, an
art
education
program
for
junior
secondary
school
teachers
is
only
offered
at
Molepolole
College
of
Education
.
