Notes
This
qualitative
inquiry
explored
student
experiences
and
responses
while
producing
and
evaluating
computer-generated
art
. In
our
highly
technological
world
,
art
can
be
digitally
rendered
. And
while
students
are
excited
and
eager
to
explore
the
tools
of the
computer
and
expand
upon
this
new
knowledge
,
art
educators
may
be
reluctant
to
teach
it
. They
may
find
the
adaptation
rather
confusing
to
grasp
or
difficult
to
teach
and
may
be
filled
with
questions
concerning
the
relevance
and
importance
of
digitally
rendered
art
in the
art
curriculum
. The
review
of
literature
included
discerning
meaning
to the
term
"
computer
art
",
historical
context
of the
medium
and
viable
effects
of
exploiting
the
tools
of the
computer
.
It
also
provided
understandable
language
of this
technological
art
medium
, the
aesthetic
experiences
involved
within
the
process
and the
search
for
appropriate
measures
of
evaluation
and
assessment
. The
investigation
explored
ways
in
which
the
computer
can
be
utilized
to
stimulate
learning
,
creativity
and the
presentation
of
art
concepts
and how
digital
rendering
can
be
compared
to
traditional
mediums
.
Two
classes
of
high
school
computer
art
students
were
questioned
and
observed
to
provide
valuable
insight
pertaining
to the
computer
art
process
, the
digital
product
and the
evaluation
of
electronic
imagery
. The
creative
process
,
critiquing
process
and
assessment
process
were
each
examined
by
means
of
data
collected
through
teacher
and
students
interviews
,
surveys
, and
written
critiques
and
documented
through
journal
entries
and
daily
action
research
. As this
investigation
concluded
,
rubric
guidelines
were
provided
to
aid
teachers
of
high
school
art
students
as they
struggle
to
keep
up
with the
ever
changing
and
growing
phenomenon
of
digital
art
.
