Abstract	The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the concept of honor in Valle Inclán's masterpieces Martes de Carnaval, Luces de bohemia and Divinas Palabras. Honor has been a recurrent literery motive in the whole history of Spanish literature. During the Siglo de Oro (Golden Age of Spanish literature) the topic appeared in practically every literary genre. In most cases, the case of honor was the basis of the narrative structure. The literary characters acted based upon the laws of honor. They followed blindly those laws, which, in many cases, forced them to shed blood. Valle Inclán takes the dramatic structure of the honor cases, the situations and the honor conflicts, and deform them through his particular literary technique: el esperpento. The Spanish literary tradition becomes Valle-Inclán's inspiration to create his own literary world. Still, through the systematic deformation, the author aims to undermine this tradition. Valle Inclán uses the concept of honor to criticize the values of a society, the Spanish society of the early 20th century, which he considers to be morally rotten. The literary characters of the Siglo de Oro regard honor as something sacred. And also the author venerated the idol. Valle Inclán's characters are subordinated to the cruel demands of honor, but the author completely loathes it. He wants to show us how worrying about one's honor systematically can lead to absurd and grotesque situations. The author's critique most frequently targets militarism, patriotism and the supremacy of the Catholic Church, the factual powers in the Spain of Valle Inclán.
