Abstract
Fatigue
is
an
inevitable
consequence
of
physical
activity
, and
affects
multiple
systems
of the
human
body
. Of
particular
interest
to those in the
sports
medicine
world
is
how
fatigue
affects
the
performance
of
athletes
.
Quality
of
movement
has
become
a
topic
of
interest
to
sports
medicine
professionals
, and
although
most
experts
agree
functional
movement
is
a
critical
factor
of
sports
performance
, and
fatigue
may
be
detrimental
to
movement
,
little
research
has been
done
to
evaluate
how
fatigue
effects
functional
movement
in
athletes
.
Most
studies
equating
fatigue
and
movement
,
evaluate
very
sport
specific
movements
such
as
three
point
shots
, and
jump
stop
tasks
in
basketball
and
negate
to
evaluate
how the
body
moves
as a
whole
when
in a
state
of
fatigue
. The
major
aim
of this
study
was to
link
the
disparity
between
fatigue
and
functional
movement
.
10
subjects
from an
undergraduate
population
between
the
ages
of
18-25
had their
Functional
Movement
Screen
(FMS)
scored
while
at
rest
and
after
performing
a
fatigue
protocol
.
After
fatigue
,
FMS
scores
decreased
significantly
when
compared
to
baseline
. The
results
of this
study
suggest
fatigue
may
impair
functional
movement
during
activity
which
may
decrease
performance
, and
increase
susceptibility
to
injury
during
activity
