Master's Thesis
Notes
The
purpose
of this
thesis
is
to
suggest
effective
data
collection
strategies
that
drive
individualized
and
differentiated
instruction
that
meets
the
Common
Core
State
Standards
.
Due
to
high-stakes
testing
,
teachers
are
expected
to
use
qualitative
and
quantitative
data
to
drive
their
instruction
. A
geometry
unit
was
created
as an
example
of how to
use
data
to
drive
instruction
.
Five
standards
that
focused
on
transformations
were
chosen
from
Unit

:
Congruence

Proof
, and
Constructions
of the

. The
researcher
used
the
following
methods
:

. "
Unwrapped
" the
five
Common
Core
State
Standards
to
focus
on the
skills
and
concepts
the
students
need
to
master
by the
end
of the
unit
.

Developed
big
ideas
and
essential
questions
to
describe
what the
students
should
discover
on their
own
throughout
the
unit

learning
objectives
that
meet
the
expectations
of the

Created
pre-
and
post-assessments
that
assess
all
the
student
learning
objectives
and
can
be
used
as a
method
of
collecting
data
.
Instructional
strategies
were
presented
to
aid
teachers
'

for
each
student
learning
objective
.
Instructional
strategies
and
sample
activities
were
presented
to
aid
differentiation
and
individual
instruction
based
on the
data
collected
from these
assessments
.
Even
though
the
unit
focuses
on
transformations
, the
strategies
presented
can
be
modified
to any
mathematical
concept
, at any
grade
level
.
Through
the
development
of this
unit
, the
researcher
concluded
that
it
is
possible
to
differentiate
instruction
to
meet
the
needs
of
students
and
meet
the
expectations
of the
Common
Core
State
