La
guerra
en

:
representaciones

los

tratan
de
la

civil

Notes
A
study
of
film
as a
reflection
of
life
often
reveals
truths
about
the
time
period
. In an
attempt
to
better
understand
the
history
of the
Spanish
Civil
War
and the
post-war
dictatorship
under
Francisco
Franco
, this
work
presents
an
analysis
of
films
that
portray
life
during
and in the
wake
of the
conflict
.
Films
included
in this
study
were
chosen
for their
focus
on and
dramatic
explorations
of the
worlds
of
women
and
children
.
Consultations
of a
wide
range
of
scholarly
papers
and
periodicals
contributed
to the
development
of
several
common
themes
related
to the
struggle
for
survival
during
war
times
, the
trauma
of
loss
, and
adaptation
to the
harsh
psychological
landscape
of a
post-war
dictatorship
. This
study
shows
that
many
films
created
between
1971
and
2007
tell
new
stories
,
rejecting
the
previously-celebrated
tales
of
military
heroes
in
order
to
narrate
the
daily
lives
of
women
who
fight
for their
families
and to
enter
the
labyrinth
of
children’s
games
and
fantasies
. The
voices
in these
films
critique
Franco’s
regime
,
speaking
truths
that were
silenced
during
the
oppressive
post-war
period
and
reintegrating
the
traumas
of the
past
through
story-telling
.
Most
importantly
, these
films
reveal
the
perspectives
of the
society
in
which
they were
produced
,
providing
a
fertile
ground
both
for
observation
of and
learning
about
the
past
and the
present
.
