of
Jamaican
immigrants
in
central
Connecticut

Notes
This
study
examines
the
fulfilled
and/or
unfulfilled
dreams
of
Jamaican
immigrants
living
in the
United
States
of
America
. The
history
of
Jamaica
and the
history
of
migration
are
reviewed
to
understand
the
reason
why
so
many
Jamaicans
migrate
to the
United
States
in
search
of a
better
life
. This
study
tested
the
theory
that
many
Jamaican
immigrants
have not
attained
the
objectives
and
expectations
they
set
out
to
achieve
when
they
embarked
on
immigrating
to the
United
States
of
America
and also their
satisfaction
with
life
in the
country
. The
study
was
conducted
in
Hartford
,
Connecticut
and
focuses
on
Jamaican
immigrants
and their
views
to
after
migrating
.
Data
were also
obtained
which
provides
an
insight
to
whether
or not the
immigrants
have
attained
the
objectives
and
expectations
they
set
out
to
achieve
when
they
embarked
on
immigration
to the
United
States
.
Fifty
Jamaicans
,
males
and
females
from
Hartford
,
Connecticut
participated
and
completed
a
fourteen
item
questionnaire
on
migration
that
took
approximately
10
minutes
to
complete
. The
participants
were
recruited
from
different
sources
such
as
beauty
parlor
and
through
referral
from
friends
and
family
. The
results
of the
study
supported
the
hypothesis
that
many
Jamaican
immigrants
had not
attained
the
objectives
and
expectations
that
motivated
them to
migrate
to the
United
States
and
many
were
neutral
about
their
satisfaction
of their
lifestyle
in the
United
States
.
