Notes
Toni
Morrison
is
considered
one
of the
greatest
living
American
writers
. A
close
reading
of
three
of her
novels
(The
Bluest
Eye
,
Sula
,
Beloved)
reveals
the
connection
between
her
novels
and
Erving
Goffman‘s
theory
of
stigma—a
connection
that has
previously
been
overlooked
in
literary
criticism
on
Morrison
to-date
. This
thesis
provides
cogent
examples
showcasing
the
relationship
between
Morrison‘s
work
and
Goffman‘s
work
as
well
as
points
future
scholars
to
additional
areas
in
Morrison
studies
that
might
further
develop
my

work
on the
nature
of
stigma
.
