Still
suffering
:
young

targeted
by
school
bullying
in
adolescence
Publisher

Date

Resource Type
Elihu Burritt Library Undergraduate Research Award Essay
Notes
School
bullying
impacts
approximately
32%
of
adolescents
in the
United
States
.
Peer
victimization
is
linked
to a
number
of
adverse
consequences
for
children
and
adolescents
,
including
high
rejection
sensitivity
,
high
social
avoidance
, and
low
self-efficacy
.
However
, these
important
factors
are
understudied
as
long-term
adjustment
outcomes
of
school
bullying
. The
goal
of
my
study
is
to
investigate
whether
a
relationship
exists
between
adolescent
peer
victimization
and
rejection
sensitivity
,
social
avoidance
, and
social
self-efficacy
in
young
adult
college
students
.
I
will
recruit
100
Central
Connecticut
State
University
students
to
complete
a
series
of
questionnaires
including
the
Modified
DIAS
,
RSQ
,
SAD
, and
SEQSS
, in
exchange
for
course
credit
.
I
predict
that
college
students
who
were
victims
of
adolescent
school
bullying
will
report
higher
rejection
sensitivity
,
higher
social
avoidance
, and
less
social
self-efficacy
as
compared
to
non-victims
.
Further
,
I
expect
these
relationships
to be
strongest
for
young-adults
who
were
repeatedly
bullied
in
adolescence
.
