Notes	Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery are two types of revascularization procedures done in patients with single and multi-vessel coronary disease. The purpose of this review of the literature was to determine whether either of these revascularization procedures had a better outcome than the other in treating single and multi-vessel coronary artery disease. Initially, PCI consist of balloon angioplasty then progressed to include the use of coronary bare-metal stents and drug-eluting stents. CABG surgery can involve an on-pump procedure which requires cardiac arrest and rerouting the blood during the procedure or off-pump procedures which takes place in the beating heart. The risk of restenosis, thrombosis, graft failure, cognitive decline and repeat revascularization and other post-procedure complications can take place with these two revascularization procedures. The administrations of antiplatelets drugs with the procedures have decrease the risk of complication and the utilization of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor blocking drugs are being used during PCI. The literature showed that patients with two and three vessel disease that underwent CABG surgery had lower rates of death, myocardial infarction and repeat revascularization. Also, there were limitations in some of the clinical trials reviewed which included lack of female and minority groups and low sample sizes.
