Notes
Myogenesis
is
an
important
process
that
occurs
during
the
developmental
stages
of an
embryo
.
Stem
cells
learn
of their
fate
during
this
course
if they will
become
muscle
cells
and from there,
differentiation
within
those
muscle
cells
will
take
place
.
However
,
before
myogenesis
takes
into
effect
,
proliferation
occurs
first
.
Cyclin
D
is
a
protein
that
is
known
to be
involved
in
proliferation
. In
order
for a
progenitor
cell
to
become
a
muscle
cell
,
Cyclin
D
expression
is
brought
to a
standstill
while
MyoD
expression
begins
. The
purpose
of the
research
is
to
find
out
when
the
expression
of
Cyclin
D
stops
.
Moreover
,
we
can
begin
to
extend
the
expression
of
Cyclin
D
past
its
usual
expression
by
shutting
down
proteins
that are
involved
in the
inhibition
of
Cyclin
D
,
which
could
possibly
include
MyoD
. By
doing
so
,
cells
that
did
not
divide
before
,
could
actively
divide
again
with the
expression
of
Cyclin
D
. In this
experiment
a
clone
of the
Cyclin
D1
gene
,
called
ccnd1
, was
used
to
create
a
probe
and
fixed
embryos
of
different
hours
post
fertilization
underwent
in
situ
hybridization
to
determine
where
the
expression
of
Cyclin
D
occurred
and at what
time
.
Expression
of
Cyclin
D1
took
place
at
sixteen
and
eighteen
hours
post
fertilization
but
decreased
in
concentration
at
eighteen
hours
.
Further
studies
are
needed
to
determine
a
more
accurate
time
of
when
the
expression
ended
.
