of this
case
study
was to
examine
how

participants
in
grade
1
and
grade
3
data
teams
and
grade
level
instructional
teams
operated
as
professional
learning
communities
and the
impact
on
student
performance
in
mathematics
. This
study
examined
Hord’s
(1997)
conceptual
framework
of
effective
professional
learning
communities
:
shared
vision
,
mission
, and
beliefs
;
shared
leadership
,
data-driven
decision-making
,
supportive
conditions
, and
shared
personal
practice
.
Quantitative
data
consisted
of
formative
and
summative
assessments
.
Qualitative
data
consisted
of
guided
interviews
and
observations
of
participants
in
data
teams
and
grade
level
instructional
teams
.
Findings
indicated
that a
strong
leader
was
critical
to
student
performance
as
participants
engaged
in
collaboration
,
decision-making
, and
reflective
practice
.
