acrylic
polymer
soil
stabilizer

Notes
Polymer
based
soil
stabilizers
are
soil
binders
used
to
prevent
soil
erosion
.
Because
these
materials
can
be
environmental
friendly
and
reduce
labor
costs
,
polymer
dispersion
based
soil
stabilizers
have
become
popular
solutions
to
soil
erosion
problems
.
Soil
aggregates
are the
fundamental
component
of
soil
.
Soil
stabilizers
binds
the
soil
aggregate
together
therefore
influences
the
stability
of the
aggregation
. The
major
aim
of this
work
is
to
investigate
the
efficacy
of
Acrylic
Polymer
soil
stabilizer
as an
erosion
reducing
material
.
Modified
Aggregate
Stability
test
is
used
to
determine
the
effectiveness
of
such
soil
stabilizer
. The
soil
samples
were
treated
with
Acrylic
Polymer
soil
stabilizer
with
different
variation
in
concentrations
. They were then
tested
with
Modified
Aggregate
Stability
Test
measures
which
measures
Water
Stable
Aggregates
(WSA)
in
percentages
. The
relationship
between
concentration
of
Acrylic
Polymer
applied
and
Water
Stable
Aggregate
is
presented
.
It
is
concluded
that
changes
in
concentration
of
stabilizers
affects
the
percentages
in
WSA
. In
addition
,
Torvane
tests
were also
conducted
on
stabilized
soils
. This
test
helps
to
gather
information
on
changes
on
soil’s
surface
shear
strength
for
different
concentration
of
Acrylic
Polymer
applied
.
Graphs
show
relationships
both
between
Concentration
versus
WSA
; and
Concentration
versus
Surface
Shear
Strength
are
presented
.
