to

the

of the
Polish
gentile
Holocaust
survivors

Notes
The
idea
for the
Connecticut
oral
history
project
concerning
Polish
gentile
Holocaust
Survivors
came
after
the
broadcast
of the
Holocaust
, a
miniseries
televised
in
four
parts
in
1978
on
NBC
which
portrayed
Poles
unfairly
.
Some
people
highly
criticized
the
series
for
being
not
historically
accurate
or
even
being
offensive
. An
oral
history
project
on the
Polish
survivors
of the
Holocaust
was
created
in the
early
1980’s
in
Connecticut
in an
effort
to
document
the
Polish
gentile
experiences
during
the
Holocaust
. A
year
long
project
was
organized
and
directed
by
Dr
.
Stanislaus
A.
Blejwas
, a
coordinator
of
Polish
Studies
at
Central
Connecticut
State
University
. The
aim
of this
project
was to
interview
Polish
gentiles
who
survived
the
Holocaust
as
well
as to
record
their
experiences
, and
educate
the
general
public
about
the
non
Jewish
survivors
of the
Holocaust
.
Sometime
between
1979
and
early
1980s
, a
number
of
articles
were
published
in
local
newspapers
in
connection
with the
Holocaust
remembrance
and
response
to the
way
Poland
was
portrayed
in the
TV
miniseries-Holocaust
. The
oral
history
project
collection
consists
of
original
materials
that were
preserved
in
twelve
archival
boxes
. These
materials
further
consist
of
original
,
hand
written
notes
, in
Polish
and
English
,
recorded
interviews
,
proposals
,
budgets
,
brochures
,
newspaper
clippings
,
audio
tape
recordings
,
original
articles
related
to the
project
,
correspondence
,
Holocaust
related
literature
reviews
and
evaluations
. The
materials
were
organized
by
sections
,
each
explaining
different
aspect
of the
project
.
Only
recently
the
tapes
were
recorded
into
compact
discs
to
preserve
their
valuable
content
. The
goal
was to
interview
at
last
thirty
Holocaust
survivors
to
obtain
a
meaningful
historical
account
that
could
be
used
for the
Connecticut
public
radio
documentary
. The
oral
history
project
on the
Holocaust
survivors
was a
step
toward
meaningful
discussions
for the
Polish
and
Jewish
leaders
that
claim
the
victimhood
of the
Holocaust
.
