Title
Locus
of

and

type
as
contributing
factors
to

Notes
The
present
study
attempted
to
examine
both
personality
and
demographic
factors
associated
with
successful
performance
in
on-line
courses
.
Specifically
,
it
was
hypothesized
that
internal
locus
of
control
,
Dionysian
and
Promethean
personality
types
(based
on
Kiersey's
Type
Sorter)
, and
being
older
and
working
more
hours
would be
associated
with
better
performance
, as
reflected
in
course
grades
and
prior
history
of
dropping
on-line
courses
,
Forty-two
out
of
486
potential
subjects
agreed
to
participate
and
completed
the
required
measures
.
No
evidence
was
found
that
internal
locus
of
control
was
associated
with
better
performance
. The
hypothesis
regarding
personality
type
was
unable
to be
tested
because
of the
low
number
of
participants
who
fell
into these
specified
categories
.
Partial
support
was
found
for the
hypothesis
that
older
students
would be
more
successful
academically
. This
relationship
was
true
for
undergraduate
students
but was not
found
among
graduate
students
.
Sample
limitations
of the
current
study
as
well
as
suggestions
for
future
research
are
discussed
.
