Abstract
When
fueled
,
three
elements
of an
organization's
makeup-an
individual's
personal
characteristics
,
situational
attributes
, and
environmental/working
conditions
,
either
separately
, or
combined-can
create
a
lethal
mix
of
ingredients
for
workplace
rage
. This
study
examines
whether
each
component
is
an
equally
powerful
and
pervasive
trigger
that
might
provoke
the
ultimate
workplace
rage
or
must
they
all
ignite
together
for a
potentially
deadly
combination
of
conditions
that
explode
"at the
right
place
at the
right
time.
" This
study
also
reviews
the
social
interactionist
perspective
as
it
relates
to
workplace
violence
.
Fifteen
executives
representing
a
cross-section
of
organizations
were
interviewed
concerning
individual
personal
characteristics
,
situational
, and
environmental/working
conditions
they
believed
may
have
caused
incidents
of
rage
in their
workplace
.
Results
of the
interviews
were
analyzed
to
identify
the
triggers
of
workplace
rage
. In those
interviews
