Notes
The
current
Advanced
Photography
course
at
Glastonbury
High
School
has been
primarily
an
extension
of the
Introduction
to
Photography
course
. There
is
a
need
to
improve
the
Advanced
Photography
course
,
adding
three
(3)
comprehensive
units
,
Portrait
Photography
,
Digital
Photography
, and
Digital
imagery
and
Scanning
. The
units
would
reflect
the
current
direction
of
visual
communication
and
photography
. There
is
still
a
need
for
learning
conventional
photography
processes
,
which
would
continue
to be
part
of the
course
.
Digital
Photography
has
become
a
very
important
part
of
Visual
Communication
. The
process
of
using
a
scanner
and
digital
camera
for
various
photography
needs
has
become
vital
.
Photography
students
need
to
realize
and
understand
the
advantages
and
disadvantages
of
digital
imagery
. The
Digital
Photography
Unit
to be
introduced
would
take
about
Fifteen
(15)
42-minute
class
periods
. The
proposed
time
schedule
used
would be
three
(3)
classes
for the
digital
camera
and
three
(3)
classes
for
scanner
instruction
,
allowing
time
for
each
student
to
use
the
equipment
following
instruction
. The
software
the
students
would be
using
would be
Adobe
PhotoShop
5.0
. The
students
would be
given
Adobe
PhotoShop
instruction
during
six
(6)
classes
. The
remaining
three
(3)
class
periods
would be
used
for
students
to
work
on
individually
selected
and
instructor
approved
projects
to
reinforce
the
information
and
skills
developed
during
the
Digital
Photography
unit
.
Students
would be
required
to
complete
a
comparison
assignment
between
digital
camera
and
scanned
projects
.
Students
would
continue
to
work
on
other
digital
projects
throughout
the
semester
. The
Portrait
Photography
unit
would
require
twelve
(12)
class
periods
. There
is
still
a
demand
for
formal
Photography
for
weddings
, and
other
events
that are
special
in
individual's
lives
according
to the
Hallmark
Institute
in
Massachusetts
. The
students
would be
required
to
research
different
time
periods
in the
history
of
portrait
photography
,
each
student
would then
present
a
three-minute
oral
report
. The
different
types
of
lighting
and
direction
of
lighting
would be
explained
and
demonstrated
. The
effects
of
background
color
and
textures
would be
explored
through
experimentation
and
examples
.
Setting
up
different
situations
and
analyzing
the
effects
would
allow
students
to
evaluate
the
use
of
props
and
composition
techniques
. The
students
would then
work
in
pairs
producing
portraits
of
each
other
using
a
35mm
camera
&
Twin
lens
Reflex
Camera
(Medium
Format
Camera)
and the
student
preferred
setup
.
