: This
Transportation
Systems
course
introduces
the
high
school
student
to the
history
,
design
,
operation
,
manufacture
and
maintenance
of
transportation
systems
.
Course
content
is
designed
to
develop
an
understanding
of
transportation
technology
and to
aid
students
' in
making
informed
career
and
consumer
choices
.
Emphasis
is
placed
on
analyzing
transportation
systems
,
safe
work
habits
,
proper
use
of
tools
and
equipment
,
environmental
responsibility
and
career
skills
required
in the
workplace
.
Purpose
of
Course
:
Since
their
inception
,
methods
of
transportation
have had a
significant
impact
on
our
lives
,
society
, the
economy
and
our
environment
.
Our
transportation
systems
give
us
independence
,
mobility
and
status
; and have
enabled
the
growth
and
development
of
our
culture
.
Our
society
has
become
dependant
on
transportation
systems
and the
industries
that
manufacture
,
service
and
support
them, for
much
of
our
economic
growth
. This
Transportation
Systems
course
is
a
hands-on
learning
experience
that
teaches
students
technological
literacy
,
academic
and
personal
development
,
technical
knowledge
, and
consumer
&
career
awareness
.
Course
Goals
or
Expectations
: The
goal
of the
Transportation
Systems
course
is
to
provide
students
with
experiences
in the
application
of
transportation
systems
and an
appreciation
of the
impact
on
society
and the
opportunities
that
it
provides
. This
course
develops
technological
skills
and
provides
for
career
exploration
in the
field
of
transportation
systems
.
Students
leaving
this
course
will have
gained
an
understanding
of the
basic
transportation
systems
, their
design
,
construction
and the
maintenance
that
is
required
to
ensure
the
safe
operation
and
long
life
of the
vehicle
.
Students
will
experience
safe
workshop
skills
and
proper
use
of
tools
and
equipment
. As the
students
participate
in
lab
activities
, they will
analyze
situations
and
solve
problems
,
putting
to
use
their
newly
acquired
knowledge
of
transportation
systems
.
Students
are
expected
to
leave
this
course
with a
feeling
of
accomplishment
and the
experience
of
working
with the
information
and
tools
of
Transportation
systems
.
