Notes	This thesis describes the evaluation of two community programs run by the Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc.: the Family Support Program and the Crime Prevention Program. These programs were reviewed as part of a contract negotiated between the Center for Social Research at Central Connecticut State University and the agency. The thesis begins by describing the specific activities conducted as part of these two programs and then reviews some of the pertinent literature on both program evaluation and community support programs. Data collection instruments were developed for program staff to administer and attendance data from prior activities were analyzed. Unfortunately, program staff did not utilize the survey instruments developed, so the evaluation was based primarily on attendance records. These data suggested that the program was running too many activities, a number of which had consistently low participation rates. Suggestions were made about (a) refocusing staff efforts on a smaller number of activities, and (b) the need to regularly collect various outcome data. The thesis also describes some of the actual dynamics of conducting the evaluation and the "real-world" problems that evaluators often face.
