Notes
Utilizing
storytelling
as an
approach
to
healing
is
discussed
in
recent
literature
. In
fact
,
women's
storytelling
as
healing
has
enjoyed
resurgence
in
literature
since
the
women's
movement
. The
women's
movement
nurtured
connections
between
women
,
opened
doors
of
communication
, and
fostered
the
sharing
of
stories
. As a
result
of the
feminist
movement
,
women's
spirituality
is
at the
forefront
of
much
popular
literature
. The
Goddess
metaphor
is
important
in
women's
spiritual
quest
because
it
provides
the
symbolism
that
legitimizes
the
concerns
of the
women's
movement
. The
symbol
of the
Goddess
is
an
affirmation
of
independent
female
power
and
assists
women
on their
journey
toward
healing
and
wholeness
. The
female
body
, a
symbol
of the
Goddess
,
is
prominent
in
women's
stories
.
Many
stories
focus
on
women's
rites
of
passage
,
one
of
which
is
menarche
.
Stories
of
menarche
are
examined
according
to
two
themes
: those
which
celebrate
the
body
, and those
which
denigrate
it
. The
stories
demonstrate
that
women
are
writing
and
sharing
stories
,
thus
they are
making
connections
with
other
women
and
partaking
in the
healing
process
. The
study
of
women's
stories
is
crucial
because
it
recognizes
and
reinforces
the
female
voice
,
which
has
struggles
for
so
long
to be
heard
.
