motivation
Publisher

Resource Type
Master's Thesis
Notes
This
project
explores
the
relationship
between
criminal
thinking
patterns
and
motivation
. The
project
involves
the
following
research
question
: What
criminal
thinking
patterns
are
related
to
motivation
? In
order
to
determine
the
relationship
between
the
two
variables
, the
study
involves
the
use
of the
Criminogenic
Thinking
Profile
(CTP)
and the
University
of
Rhode
Island
Change
Assessment
Scale
(URICA)
.
Both
assessment
tools
were
completed
by
one
hundred
and
nine
probationers
at the
Office
of
Adult
Probation
in
Hartford
,
Connecticut
, as they
waited
to
meet
with their
probation
officers
. The
assessments
were
completed
voluntarily
and the
probationers
were
compensated
$5
for
participating
. The
one
hundred
and
nine
assessments
were
collected
within
three
days
and the
responses
were
analyzed
. The
findings
of the
assessments
found
that a
majority
of the
participants
were
considered
in the
Precontemplation
stage
of
motivation
and that they
scored
within
the
60th
percentile
for their
overall
criminal
thinking
score
. The
correlations
show
a
negative
relationship
between
motivation
and
criminal
thinking
which
means
that
lower
motivation
is
associated
with
increased
criminal
thinking
patterns
. By
examining
the
relationship
between
criminal
thinking
and
motivation
,
it
will
assist
in
creating
appropriate
treatment
programs
with a
focus
on an
individual’s
potential
for
rehabilitation
.
