conferences
(SLC)
, and its
impact
on
engaging
parents
and
empowering
students
.
Theoretical
elements
including
perceptions
of
student
achievement
,
parental
involvement
,
empowerment
,
social
and
cultural
capital
, and
visionary
leadership
informed
the
study's
design
.
Interviews
and
surveys
of
students
,
parents
,
teachers
, and
administrators
yielded
quantitative
data
, and
observations
of
SLC's
and
case-study
documentary
analysis
produced
quantitative
data
.
Findings
suggest
that
participant
groups
associate
their
involvement
in the
SLC
process
with
perceptions
of
higher
student
academic
achievement
and that a
co-constructed
leadership
model
,
consisting
of
teachers
and
administrators
,
is
a
critical
component
in the
development
of
student
empowerment
and
self
advocacy
,
which
promote
perceived
student
achievement
.
Finally
,
data
suggest
that a
university
partnership
was
instrumental
in
informing
the
implementation
of
SLCs
despite
leadership
changes
.
