Notes	This study examined whether different types of homework assignments had an impact on student achievement in Mathematics as well as on student completion of homework. The study was conducted over the course of 10 weeks and took place in a public high school in Connecticut. The participants of the study were 35 Algebra II students. In order to carry out this study, control and experimental groups were used. The control group was assigned homework that was based on practicing skills covered during the lesson. The experimental group was assigned homework containing a combination of practice tasks, writing activities, and higher level tasks such as evaluation and synthesis. A collection of Analysis of Variance and Regression Analysis were used to analyze the data. The findings of the study indicated that subjects who were assigned homework that contained practice exercises, writing activities, and higher level tasks completed more homework than subjects who were assigned homework containing only practice exercises. However, no difference was found in academic achievement between the control and experimental groups. This study also found that for this particular group of high school students, younger students performed better on the cumulative assessment than older students. This study also found that females completed significantly more homework than males. A larger sample population is suggested to conduct a similar study in order to make further conclusions about the relationship between homework and student academic achievement. Further studies could be also conducted to investigate the different homework and study habits between males and females, and possible explanations such as cultural and biological influences for gender differences.
