The
purpose
of this
study
was to
examine
the
impact
of
Reciprocal
Teaching
on
literacy
achievement
of
boys
. This
mixed
method
,
quasi-experimental
study
was
conducted
by a
teacher
researcher
in her
seventh
grade
World
Geography
class
.
Treatment
,
Reciprocal
Teaching
, was
applied
to
2
of
4
classes
.
Quantitative
data
were
collected
using
a
standardized
reading
assessment
, a
survey
of
reading
strategies
, and
content
assessments
.
Qualitative
data
were
collected
through
a
focus
group
of
6
boys
in the
treatment
group
.
Results
of this
study
concluded
that
while
Reciprocal
Teaching
enhanced
the
metacognitive
skills
of
students
,
it
did
not
improve
literacy
achievement
scores
as
measured
by a
standardized
assessment
.
However
,
Reciprocal
Teaching
improved
self-reported
strategy
use
and
achievement
of
social
studies
content
for
all
students
.
