Notes
This
thesis
represents
a
thorough
and
comprehensive
study
of
Puerto
Rico
political
,
economic
and
social
circumstances
from the
perspectives
of
poet's
generations
during
over
two
hundred
years
of
colonial
history
.
Over
the
last
one
hundred
years
the
Puerto
Ricans
argue
that the
American
promises
for
social
and
economic
improvement
have
gone
unfulfilled
.
Extensive
study
on the
views
of
Puerto
Rico
poetry
community
was
collected
from
academic
studies
, a
variety
of
essays
, and
other
publications
. This
thesis
also
observes
the
claims
of the
Puerto
Ricans
to
end
the
colonial
issue
that
United
States
keep
since
1898
.
Through
the
use
of
poems
and
other
writings
the
thesis
compares
the
reality
in the
Puerto
Rican
colony
before
the
United
States
invasion
, and the
reality
after
one
hundred
and
ten
years
of
political
,
economic
, and
social
change
according
to what the
United
States
wants
in
Puerto
Ricans
,
where
the
poetry
was
used
as a
vehicle
to
denounce
the
unfairness
of the
colonialism
. The
conclusion
is
based
on the
analysis
of
various
texts
used
to
support
the
thesis
that
provides
substantial
support
for the
issues
that
concern
to
actual
colonialism
. Also, the
outcome
of this
study
may
have
expanded
our
understanding
of the
relationships
between
Puerto
Rico
and the
United
States
.
