Notes	The Koppen climate classification system indicates that the state of Connecticut currently has two microthermal climate regions, Dfa and Dfb. Past climatological data shows that the average annual temperature in Storrs, Connecticut warmed from 7.70C (45.80F) for the 1892 - 1921 time period to 90C (48.20F) for the 1966 - 1995 time period (EPA, 1997). This thesis examines three hypotheses. Hypotheses One and Two sought to identify associations between temperature change and length of growing season for the Dfa (Hypothesis One) and Dfb (Hypothesis Two) climate regions within the state of Connecticut during the 1954-2004 time period. The third hypothesis sought to determine if there is an association between temperature change and crop yield production (i.e. Apples, corn, peaches, pears, and tobacco) for the state of Connecticut during the 1954-2004 time period. This research demonstrates that the average annual temperature for Dfa climate region in Connecticut increased by 0.70C (1.330F) during the 1954 to 2004 time period. The average length of the growing season for the Dfa climate region in Connecticut was 164.74 days during the 1954 to 2004 time period. An increase of 12.5 days in the length of the growing season occurred from 1954 to 2004. A relationship was also inferred between change in average annual temperature and length of growing season for the Dfb climate region in Connecticut during the 1954-2004-time period. The Dfb climate region experienced an increase in temperature of 0.380C (0.690F) during the 1954 to 2004 time period. At the same time, the length of the growing season for the Dfb climate region increased a total of 18 days. Association between changes in average annual temperature and crop yield for the entire state of Connecticut was also assessed. The average annual temperature for the state of Connecticut increased 0.60C (1.10F) during the 1954 to 2004 time period. During this time, corn was the only crop in Connecticut to have an increase in crop production from 1954 to 2004. Apples, peaches, pears, and tobacco all reported decreases in production. To summarize, as average annual temperatures increased from 1954-2004, so did length of growing season for the Dfa and Dfb climate regions in Connecticut. In addition, a significant correlation coefficient (i.e. >0.4) existed between temperature change and length of growing season for climate zone Dfa (0.417), but not for climate zone Dfb (0.348). However, there does not appear to be a significant relationship between an increase of average annual temperature for the state of Connecticut and crop yield in Connecticut from 1954 to 2004.
