Title
Interleukin
20
receptor
(IL20RA)
is
not the
gene
disrupted
by the
male
sterility
and
histoincompatibility
(mshi)
mutation
in
mice

Resource Type
Master's Thesis
Notes
The
recessive
male
sterility
and
histoincompatibility
mutation
(mshi)
in the
mouse
generates
pleiotropic
effects
on
graft
transplantation
and
male
reproduction
.
Previous
analysis
of
backcross
mice
using
a
large
set
of
microsatellite
markers
has
mapped
the
mshi
mutation
within
a
1.7-cM
interval
between
markers
D10Mit168
and
D10Mit213
on
proximal
mouse
Chr
10
. Here
we
focused
on
one
of the
18
genes
known
to
lie
in this
interval
,
Interleukin
20
receptor
alpha
(IL20RA)
, as a
possible
candidate
for
mshi
.
Specifically
,
we
analyzed
the
expression
pattern
of
IL20RA
mRNA
in
testis
and
skin
tissue
of
both
homozygote
mutant
and
heterozygote
male
mice
. The
IL20RA
cDNA
sequence
from
mshi/mshi
and
wild
type
skin
was also
determined
.
Even
though
our
results
indicate
that
IL20RA
is
not the
gene
disrupted
by the
mshi
mutation
in
mice
,
we
have
narrowed
the
genetic
and
physical
maps
of the
mshi
critical
region
from
1.7
Mbp
to
only
0.6
Mbp
between
IL20RA
and
D10Mit213
. In
addition
,
we
show
that
IL20RA
is
spermatogonia
specific
and
may
be
alternatively
spliced
in
testis
tissue
.
