joined
the
U.S
.
Marine
Corps
in
1944
while
living
in
New
Haven
,
Ct
. He
went
to
basic
training
at
Parris
Island
(S.C.)
which
lasted
for
3
months
. He was then
transferred
to
Quantico
,
Va
. To
work
with and
repair
the
aircraft
that was
being
used
to
train
new
Marine
lieutenants
.
Since
he had
worked
for
Sikorsky
prior
to his
military
service
,
Kline
was
well
suited
to the
job
of
aircraft
repair
.
Although
the
base
had
many
types
of
planes
,
Kline
primarily
worked
with the
Corsair
F4U
.
Toward
the
end
of his
assignment
in
Quantico
,
Kline
also
became
an
instructor
for
incoming
marines
before
being
discharged
in
January
of
1947
.
