Louis
Miklos
was
drafted
into the
U.S
.
Army
Air
Corps
in
October
of
1941
before
the
attack
on
Pearl
Harbor
. He was
sent
to
Fort
Devens
(Mass.)
and then
Dow
Field
(Me.)
for
basic
training
,
which
consisted
mostly
of
calisthenics
and
drills
. He
trained
to be a
mechanic
and
part
of the
ground
crew
for the
B-17’s
in the
43rd
Bomb
Group
.
After
additional
training
, the
soldiers
were
sent
to
Australia
on the
Queen
Mary
. They
stayed
in
Australia
for a
bit
of
time
awaiting
the
arrival
of the
aircraft
.
Miklos’
unit
took
part
in the
invasions
going
on in the
South
Pacific
,
including
the
Battle
of
Leyte
Gulf
,
Luzon
, and
Manila
.
