Title	Oral history interview with Edwin P. DesRosiers recorded 2009 Aug. 9
Description	Interview conducted by Tom Benemann. Edwin DesRosiers enlisted in the U.S. Marines in November of 1942. He went to Parris Island (S.C.) for boot camp, which he described as an incredibly valuable learning experience for life in general, not just for military learning. He then went to Camp Lejeune (N.C.) for communications school. In December of 1943, DesRosiers battalion shipped out of San Diego on an LST, bound for their first invasion. Over the next two years his unit spent their time travelling between Maui (Haw.) and the next invasion in the Pacific. He experienced combat in Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima among other battles. During the interview, DesRosiers vividly describes the conditions on the LST’s and during the island invasions. He was discharged from the Marines in 1945, after the atomic bomb was dropped, and returned home. He later joined the VFW, the American Legion, and the Iwo Jima Survivors Association.
