Title	Oral history interview with Muriel A. Thompson recorded 2009 Sept. 10
Description	Interview conducted by Jim Lyko. Muriel Thompson grew up in Palisades, New York with her widowed mother. After high school, she went to the University of Pennsylvania. The bombing of Pearl Harbor took place while she was at school, and she then decided to transfer to college in Manhattan. She married in 1943, and her husband was soon drafted. While he was overseas she had decided to move to Nyack, NY near Camp Shanks. She had an infant daughter, and decided it was best to go back to work. Camp Shanks provided many opportunities for civilian employment as well. Camp Shanks was a major camp devoted to embarkation, it was known as “Last Stop USA”. It also housed some German and Italian POW’s. At the camp Thompson worked as a secretary, and she was in charge of troop trains that dispatched soldiers to their overseas assignments. When the war ended and her husband was discharged, she ended her employment with the army.
