Title	Oral history interview with Edwin M. Lavitt recorded on 2009 June 26
Description	Interview conducted by Gregg Cerosky. Edwin Lavitt joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He joined because of a sense of duty to his country. He went to Nashville, Tenn. for basic training, and then went to Montgomery, Ala. for pre-flight training. Both of these experiences consisted of both rigorous schooling and physical training. Lavitt trained on a variety of planes, and was made an instructor for B-24 pilots. After a short stint as instructor, he received his orders overseas. He picked up his crew in Nebraska, and then shipped over to a base in Shipdham, England. He flew 29 missions before the war ended, and was made lead pilot in his squadron. During the interview Lavitt tells many stories of what it was like overseas, and what it was like to be the lead plane during missions. He also describes what the daily life of the crew was like. After the war ended, Lavitt returned to Connecticut, and went to law school. He had a small general practice which he ran until his retirement.
