Title	Oral history interview with Fernand Philippon conducted on 2007 Oct. 20.
Description	Interview conducted by Shannon Harvey. Fernand Philippon was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1943. He went to basic training at the Sampson training base (NY), and from there served in the Pacific Theatre of operations during World War II. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Blue Ridge, which was a brand new ship. His duties on board were with the damage control group and helping to decipher whether planes in the air were American or Japanese. The majority of his service was spent among the various islands in the Pacific, including New Guinea and the Philippines. He was discharged in 1946, but remained in the naval reserve. When the Korean War began in 1950, Philippon was again called into active duty. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Borie, where he worked in the engine room. He was discharged in 1953, and returned to Connecticut where he worked at Pratt and Whitney for a number of years. During the interview, the differences in aspects of the two wars are discussed and compared.
