a
wrong
turn
, and
Romano
found
himself
once
again
a
prisoner
of the
Germans
. He was
held
in a
civilian
internment
camp
, and
when
he was
finally
liberated
, he was in
desperate
need
of
medical
care
and
food
.
During
his
time
as
prisoner
,
Romano
went
from
196
to
only
114
lbs
.
During
the
interview
he
describes
what the
prisoners
had to
eat
,
daily
life
, and the
fear
of
death
,
which
the
prisoners
felt
was
imminent
.
Romano
also
describes
some
humorous
and
unusual
events
that
occurred
while
he was
overseas
.
When
he
returned
to the
United
States
, he was
placed
in a
recovery
camp
in
Lake
Placid
,
New
York
. He was then
discharged
