Title	Oral history interview with Robert E. Campbell recorded 2007 Jul. 20
Description	Interview conducted by Shane Matthews. Robert Campbell was living in Springfield, Vt. when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was one of the first people to receive a draft notice after it was put into effect. He passed the test and went into pilots training in the Air Corps, but during a flight test, it was determined that he did not have any depth perception. He was then transferred to the regular army. Since he was an officer, he ended up as a company commander in Fort Knox, Tenn. as a basic training instructor before he shipped overseas. He was married in 1943, and he shipped over to England one day after his first anniversary. Campbell was shipped over as a replacement in the infantry; however, once he arrived in France, he was instead put in charge of the Post Exchange at the third army headquarters. He also ran the company laundry and dry cleaning services. During the interview Campbell tells the story of how he met General Patton, and ate dinner at his house. He was discharged in September of 1945.
