entered
the
U.S
.
Army
in
1942
, and
went
to
basic
training
at
Fort
Banks
,
Mass
. He had a
series
of
job
assignments
in the
army
beginning
with the
library
at
Fort
Banks
. From there he
went
on to
work
as a
file
clerk
in
Virginia
. He also
worked
on a
troop
transport
ship
(where
they
took
returning
soldiers
from
France
back
to the
U.S.)
, and as a
searchlight
crewman
in
Newport
,
R.I
.
Feeley
was then
trained
as a
medical
technician
, and
went
on to
become
an
instructor
for the
blind
at
Valley
Forge
Hospital
in
Phoenixville
,
Pa
,
which
he
describes
as his
favorite
of his
jobs
in the
army
. There he was
assigned
a
small
group
of
patients
;
soldiers
that were
recently
injured
, and
helped
them
assimilate
back
into
life
, and how to
do
things
as a
blind
person
.
