Title	Oral history interview with Vincent F. Tremaglio recorded on 2008 Apr. 15
Description	Interview conducted by Cynthia Tremaglio. Vincent F. Tremaglio was commissioned by the U.S. Navy in April of 1966. He was in his first year of residency at a hospital in New York City at the time. Because he was commissioned as a lieutenant and a medical officer, he did not attend the same kind of basic training as other sailors. Instead he had a combined 10 weeks of training in medical areas, preparing him for the war in Vietnam. He was stationed in Chu Lai (about 30 miles south of Danang) as a medical officer in MCB 40, a navy construction battalion. In addition to his duties in Chu Lai, he also participated in the Civic Action Program, where doctors would go to civilian towns, and treat the ailments of the sick, or provide them with vaccinations. Although, he was not in a combat unit, Tremaglio saw many wounded soldiers, and mortar fire was a nightly occurrence. Tremaglio was discharged in April of 1968, and he was surprised upon his arrival in the States at the resentment toward the war. He finished his medical residency at Waterbury Hospital, and then went on to become a surgeon at Hartford Hospital.
