Title	Oral history interview with Canon Clinton Jones recorded on 2002 Nov. 4.
Description	Interview conducted by John Plotica and Isaac Miller Jr. The Reverend Canon Clinton Jones was born in 1916 in Brookfield, CT. He grew up in the Episcopal Church, but never thought about studying to be a minister until his 2nd year of college. He then decided to go to the Theological School in New York, and after graduation began a ministry in New London, CT. He then joined the Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford, CT where he was made canon and remained until retirement. He became very active in youth programs and addiction rehabilitation while he was there, and then later on he was asked to research issues pertaining to homosexual and transgendered people. Because so little information was available at the time, Canon Jones formed a special committee, called Project H, consisting of clergy, social workers, and psychologists in order to provide support to the people in these groups. He also worked with George W. Henry Foundation in New York to establish a local chapter. He became very involved in counseling through these projects, and in 1969 obtained a Master’s degree in that subject. He also wrote three books on these subjects, and went on to establish the XX “Twenty” Club, an organization devoted to supporting transsexual individuals in the Connecticut area. He described the church as being more accepting of transsexual issues because of the supporting clinical evidence, although the church was accepting of his work on the whole as well.
