Abstract	Each year, sea turtle nesting beaches are lost globally due to coastal development, leaving females with fewer places to lay eggs. To ensure the livelihood of endangered sea turtle species, it is imperative to spread awareness and promote conservation efforts within these locations. The Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge (ACR), spans 20.5 miles along Florida's Atlantic coastline and hosts the largest nesting population of loggerhead and green sea turtles in the United States. The refuge is uniquely segmented, resulting in the integration of endangered species and ecosystem protection with sustainable tourism development and recreational use. Despite efforts to reduce impacts of coastal development, little research can be found concerning the impacts ecotourism has on Florida's nesting beaches, or whether tourism activities help to improve conservation efforts. Also, while the ACR plays an active role in promoting conservation, little is known about the visitor experience received while visiting the refuge. This paper looks at the effects coastal development has on sea turtle nesting, and the role ecotourism plays in preserving vital nesting beaches. Additionally, this paper will investigate the level of visitor satisfaction achieved, despite conservation regulations implemented within the ACR. To achieve this, threats are identified, global long-term studies are referenced and structured survey and interview results are reviewed. Similarities drawn from the long-term studies will help the reader to better understand how ecotourism not only aided in diminishing the threats that impacted other nesting locations, but will help distinguish the role ecotourism plays in the conservation and protection of sea turtle nesting beaches within the ACR. Survey and interview results help to evaluate both the visitor experience and gauge knowledge of refuge conservation efforts, while gaining expert opinions on the impacts coastal development have on sea turtle nesting beaches within the state of Florida over the past decade.
