Title
Effect
of
fatigue
on
kinematics
and
accuracy
of
basketball

Notes
The
purpose
of this
study
was to
examine
the
effects
of
fatigue
on the
kinematics
and
accuracy
of
basketball
free
throw
shooting
.
Specifically
, the
angle
of
projection
, the
velocity
of
projection
, and the
projection
height
during
the
release
phase
of the
basketball
free
throw
shooting
, and
accuracy
were
measured
during
resting
and
after
five
different
intensity
fatigue
protocols
.
Seven
male
basketball
players
(21.8±1.8
years
;
195.4±7.1
cm
;
98.3±12
.
2
kg)
participated
in this
study
from
Central
Connecticut
State
University
.
Participants
performed
a
total
of
5
basketball
free
throw
shots
at
resting
and
after
five
different
intensity
fatigue
protocols
. At
rest
and
after
fatigue
protocols
, a
drop
of
blood
and
heart
rate
was
taken
in
order
to
determine
fatigue
level
.
While
the
participants
were
executing
the
basketball
free
throw
shot
, their
performance
was
recorded
using
a
camcorder
from the
sagittal
plane
.
Multivariate
comparisons
indicate
that
overall
fatigue
did
not
significantly
change
the
angle
of
projection
, the
velocity
of
projection
, the
projection
height
and,
shooting
accuracy
. On the
other
hand
,
univariate
comparisons
reveal
that the
angle
of
projection
scores
at
resting
condition
were
significantly
lower
than the
angle
of
projection
scores
at
series
4
. The
velocity
of
projection
at the
resting
condition
and at
series
1
was
significantly
faster
than the
projection
velocities
at
series
2
. The
shooting
accuracy
of the
subjects
at
series
1
was
significantly
better
than the
resting
condition
. In
conclusion
,
increased
fatigue
seems
not to be
detrimental
on
kinematics
and
accuracy
of
elite
level
basketball
players’
free
throw
shooting
.
