Notes
The
purpose
of this
study
was to
establish
standards
for the
interpretation
of a
survey
sent
to
alumni
of the
Psychology
Department
at
Central
Connecticut
State
University
. These
alumni
surveys
were
used
as a
part
of a
program
evaluation
effort
being
done
by the
Psychology
Department
.
Surveys
were
mailed
to a
random
sample
or
235
psychology
majors
that had
graduated
one
year
,
three
years
and
five
years
ago
from the
university
.
Responses
were
received
from
148
alumni
(63%
response
rate)
. In
order
to
establish
standards
of
quality
, a
Goad
Attainment
Scaling
(GAS)
process
was
used
with
full-time
psychology
faculty
in
which
each
was
asked
to
define
expectations
of
alumni
response
levels
that would
indicate
effective
department
functioning
.
Eight
faculty
members
(47%)
participated
in the
study
.
When
alumni
responses
were
compared
to
faculty
expectations
,
two
key
findings
emerged
:
1)
alumni
were
satisfied
in
general
with the
Psychology
program
at
Central
Connecticut
State
University
, and
2)
alumni
responses
exceeded
faculty
expectations
in
almost
all
areas
.
Ninety-five
percent
of the
alumni
were
satisfied
that they had
majored
in
psychology
and
almost
99%
were
satisfied
with the
challenge
the
courses
offered
.
Two
areas
were
identified
needing
improvement
:
1)
vocational
and
academic
guidance
, and
2)
understanding
and
applying
mathematical
concepts
. A
discussion
of the
findings
, the
limitations
of the
study
, and their
implications
for
future
work
is
included
.
