Todaro
was
drafted
into the
U.S
.
Army
. He
went
to
basic
training
at
Camp
Wheeler
(Va.)
.
Basic
training
was
cut
short
due
to the
need
for
replacement
troops
in the
Battle
of the
Bulge
.
Todaro
was
sent
to
Europe
and
landed
in
Le
Havre
,
France
, and
went
on to
join
the
86th
Infantry
Division
,
where
he was an
ammunition
carrier
in the
Anti-tank
battalion
.
After
the
war
was
declared
over
in
Europe
, the
86th
was
sent
to the
Pacific
Theatre
for the
impending
Invasion
of
Japan
.
However
, the
war
was
declared
over
, and
instead
the
soldiers
went
on to the
Philippines
,
where
it
was their
responsibility
to
find
Japanese
soldiers
who
were
still
unaware
of the
war’s
end
. He was
discharged
in
1946
, and
returned
home
to
Connecticut
,
where
he
went
to
work
for
Colt
firearms
,
before
settling
into a
career
as a
mason
.
