Notes	The purpose of this Capstone Project is to research and provide a solution on how mobile technology can be used as a communication tool between a faculty member and his or her students. The solution will be to allow faculty members the ability to send details about relevant classroom news or events instantaneously to students. With that thought, the idea of a student notification system emerged. SMS is a technology that enables the sending and receiving of text messages between mobile devices, such as cell phones and computers. The data relayed by SMS is limited, only 160 characters per message. SMS messaging costs are affordable. Most US cell phone carriers offer an unlimited text-messaging package for $10-month to their customers, or about 10 cents per message. The proposed student notification system, CellCatcher™, is SMS or text-based and is designed as a one-way (faculty to student) text message process. The plan for the system includes presenting college faculty with a web-based menu screen displaying two options. The two choices will be either to create or revise a target student population, or to send an SMS message to predetermined target students (grouped by the courses that they are attending). The ability to tap into this widely used communication tool (SMS via mobile device) will provide a successful solution on how to send notifications, because the targeted audience already owns a cell phone, which is determined to be the application's primary receiving component.
